Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Team Leader to join our Renewables team based in Glasgow.

The purpose of this role is to m anage the electrical engineering team and the programme of projects being delivered by the team. Ensures the projects are being delivered safely, on-time, to budget and to the required standard.

Leads the electrical engineering team’s business development activities as well as the development of the renewable team’s electrical engineering capabilities. Mentors and assists in the development of the electrical engineering team’s staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineering – Management and development the electrical engineering team, working closely with the other teams within Renewables to support and grow the business
  • Project Management – Manage the Electrical Engineering team’s programme of projects to ensure the company’s profits are being maximised whilst delivering the works on time with the goal of exceeding client’s expectations.
  • Health and Safety (H&S) – Ensure health and safety considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
  • Financial – Monitor and report on the financial status of all electrical engineering team’s projects. Ensure the profitability of the team is maximised by minimising non-chargeable time where relevant.
  • Project Controls – Implement a suite of project controls to enable efficient and accurate monitoring of the internal and external aspects of projects.
  • Information & Reporting – Upwardly report on the status of proposals, projects, and opportunities. Disseminate company information and required working practices to the Electrical Engineering Team as required.
  • Business Development – Identify and carry out business development activities to support the winning of new work. Review of project proposal information to aid in winning new work.
  • Line Management – Lead, coach, motivate and develop direct reports to optimise performance and employee capability. Recruit and select suitable staff to ensure adequate resource and skills are in place to meet business needs.

Skills / Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience of developing renewable energy systems technology projects
  • Previous experience of working in a consultancy, ideally in a supervisory role
  • Engineering management experience
  • Stakeholder management
  • Experience in Power Electrical Engineering
  • Prior experience in design and construction of Transmission, Distribution and Generation systems
  • Experience in delivering multiple multi-disciplinary projects simultaneously
  • Experience of cost-control (ideally earned value management), issue, risk, opportunity and programme management

Skills:

  • Ability to recruit, manage, motivate and mentor a team
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities and allocate suitable resource
  • Ability to prepare and write high quality concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders
  • Excellent IT skills particularly MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to collate, analyse and act upon complex and diverse information from a variety of sources and produce good quality management data for director level decision making
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills to allow delivery of tasks in a logical and methodical manner
  • Ability to operate at all levels of a business and convey detailed project information in a concise manner

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. Advanced degree or equivalent suitable experience and knowledge desirable.
  • Chartered status
