Description of our Head of Archival Processing Position 

W&M Libraries is seeking a Head of Archival Processing to lead collection management work in the Special Collections Research Center in the Earl Gregg Swem Library. This position focuses on describing collections for ease of discovery and analyzing the processing status, arrangement, and preservation of physical and born-digital archival materials. The Head of Archival Processing will also concentrate on performing reparative work on our legacy descriptions, with an emphasis on fixing inappropriate language and identifying materials that document the experience of descendant enslaved and other underrepresented communities. We encourage applications from innovative, collaborative, and detailed-oriented individuals who have progressively responsible experience in processing archival collections of all sizes and levels of complexity, increasing accessibility of archival collections to researchers, managing staff, student and volunteers. The ideal candidate will also support the public services efforts of the Special Collections Research Center through leading and assisting with instruction sessions, tours, and open houses, serving regular reference shifts to help researchers use our finding aids and databases to discover appropriate resources.
