Position Summary:

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Strategic Partnerships Manager (SPM) for portions of New York City and Westchester County is responsible for research, development, and expansion of academic and employer relationships that increase enrollment and support the University’s overall mission to change lives for the better by creating pathways to opportunity. The SPM will strengthen and expand WGU’s partnerships throughout the region to increase market reach and student access, promote the university’s affordable education options and gather information from partners to inform the continuous improvement of WGU program offerings. This position will develop, secure, and grow partners within an assigned geographical area. The SPM is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing operations for regional accounts to effectively benefit both the university and its partners.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Authentically project and reflect the mission of WGU
  • Research prospective employer and other entities and build relationships to introduce WGU to new organizations with a goal of developing partnerships and attracting students.
  • Project a professional presence representing WGU to regional organizations and advocate on the value of WGU partnerships
  • Interact with city, county and state agencies to understand related workforce needs and position WGU degrees and graduates as resources.
  • Develop deep partnerships aligned with WGU’s vision and strategic goals to increase reach and educational impact.
  • Champion lead generation and meet or exceed defined goals within the assigned geographical area
  • Develop a deep understanding of programs and curriculum in assigned colleges, and provide feedback from partners to the academic groups.
  • Holistically manage long-term, multi-dimensional relationships to support an account portfolio that spans regional reach including the management of partner relationships across all WGU business units.
  • Work to create collective value for the University and its partners through development of relevant strategic account plans for every account owned, ensuring partnership launches, maintenance, project timelines, and student impact, ultimately leveraging university and partner assets to ensure business results are achieved.
  • Incorporate consistent utilization of marketing and partnership communication that will enhance WGU being top of mind for educational opportunities. Work with national and regional marketing and public relation initiatives that support local and broader WGU strategic operations.
  • Demonstrate thoughtful and appropriate time management in extending the vision, strategies and tactics required for profitable and sustained partner engagement and implementation across all assigned accounts, this includes maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of all activities, tasks, contacts and account management.
  • Research, recommend, attend and participate in appropriate regional, professional organizations or events to represent WGU and extend reach. Participation includes pre-event efforts to secure partner participation and marketing of the event to appropriate audiences, support the day-of activities and complete follow-up tasks.
  • Develop, orient, and support engaged alumni to represent WGU in regional events, within their places of employment, or, with other opportunities.
  • Update management on goals, progression and plans for corrective action as required
  • Monitor assigned budget and provide advice and recommendation regarding resources necessary to meet established goals
  • Complete other duties as assigned

  • Advanced skills in account management software applications and platforms, Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and a willingness to learn new technology to streamline assignments and/or projects
  • Effective human relations, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, independent thinking, planning, and execution skills with an in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and emerging new priorities
  • Proficiency in prioritizing work to meet deadlines and multi-task in accordance with the university’s leadership principles and cultural beliefs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individual of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Excellent and flexible writing skills, particularly for external audiences


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in higher education environment

Must be located in New York

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business development and strategic account management with a record of high performance in solution selling across multiple industries are desirable.
  • Established positive relationships in relevant networks are highly desirable.

Special Position Requirements:

  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis, including multi-day trips as needed
  • Hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license issued by a U.S. state
  • Wifi capabilities in home office
  • Capacity to work evenings and weekends as needed for specific events or obligations
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
