Job Summary
Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for ABC News, who will be responsible for financial analysis and reporting related to the Operations, Editorial, and other business support areas of ABC News, as well as producing high-quality strategic analyses to support decision-making across the division. This includes, but is not limited to ongoing cost analysis, gathering/analysing data for budgets/forecasts/long range plans, owning specific cross-team analysis and reporting processes (related to headcount, T&E, etc.) and working on ad hoc projects to drive business performance.
The London based Senior Financial Analyst reports into the larger News Gathering & Operations Finance team in New York that supports Hard News (Newsgathering, including Domestic and International News Bureaus & Coverage; Politics; News One; etc.).
The Senior Financial Analyst provides a supporting role to the London Bureau Chief on all aspects of financial reporting and planning as well as operational support to editorial and operations partners. Working within an often very busy environment, the position offers the opportunity to work in a variety of finance related disciplines with the aim of providing business partners with the information that they require to run the business efficiently and production teams with the backing they need to deliver the news.
Responsibilities :
- Financial Reporting / Planning
- Monitor foreign location news activity. Assess and report any financial implications resulting from those activities.
- Assist in quarterly close process: reclassifications, accrual preparations, in-depth variance analysis, commentary, and financial reporting for presentation to business partners
- Assist with preparation of long range plans, annual budgets, and forecasts: pace and analyse expense trends, build detailed budgets, estimate future risks and opportunities, input data into Cognos/SAP and other tools, and present to management
- Provision of financial analyses to business partners enabling editorial/operations management to implement cost saving recommendations, including trends, modelling, scenario planning and quarterly results
- Consolidate and analyse weekly news coverage costs and report estimates to Leaders
- Collaborate with production team to create budgets and strategize special projects and/or major trips
- Business Planning & Decision Support
- Support bureau cash requirements for travelling staff & contractors
- Prepare Annual returns such as HMRC PSA Agreement, Physical Values (insurance) reports etc.
- Develop and enhance reporting tools and dashboards to analyse spending, identify areas for cost efficiencies, proactively lead process changes, and track improvements
- Coordinate with production teams to track, monitor and analyse cost for specific stories
- Monitor utilization of freelance contractors
- Partner with other ABC News Finance teams to improve processes across the finance team
- Additional ad hoc projects across News portfolio might include providing support for new strategic initiatives, programming changes, and other business processes
Basic Qualifications :
- Fully Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA Accreditation or equivalent
- Advanced Excel skills and modelling (macros and spreadsheet experience)
- Candidate must be detail-oriented, deliverable focused, and well-organized
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and build relationships with various business partners across all levels of management
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and the flexibility to handle multiple priorities
- Be a self-starter who readily provides solutions to problems and requires minimal supervision on day-to-day tasks and analyses
