JOB PURPOSE

Sutura Therapeutics (www.sutura.com) is a start-up biotech company pioneering innovative RNA-targeting therapies, with a first asset in development for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As Sutura is currently selecting the lead candidate for (pre-)clinical development and setting-up GMP manufacturing, the Company is expanding the team to support its fast-paced, and dynamic environment.

The scientist will operate within the scope of projects related to lead identification and product development. Principle job duties include active participation in the development of research plans, the writing of study protocols, their execution in the lab, and writing of reports.

JOB CONTEXT AND DIMENSIONS

· Taking responsibility for performing, interpreting and reporting on in vitro and in vivo experimental studies within the scope of the lead optimization and development program

· Developing and maintaining key screening assays and methodologies, in vitro and in vivo

· Preparation of protocols, reports, publications and oral presentations

· Be an active member of multi-disciplinary project teams; ongoing expansion of the Company offers the potential to lead future projects

· As part of the Sutura Development team, you are responsible for advancing projects in the discovery/development pipeline by conducting hypothesis-driven research in line with clear objectives and budgets.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD in biological/(bio)medical sciences, pharmacology or similar, or MSc with equivalent research experience in industry

· Home Office PIL A/B, in addition preferably PILC or equivalent

SPECIFIC SKILLS

Essential:

· Home office PIL A/B, experience with intravenous drug administration in mice

· Mouse tissue dissection and processing of cryopreserved and/or paraffin-embedded tissues

· Protein detection techniques including SDS-PAGE/Western blotting & immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry

· RNA isolation and (real-time) RT-PCR

· Fluorescence microscopy and image analysis

· Mammalian cell culture

· Data analysis and statistical techniques

· Proficient in writing study protocols, reports etc in English

Desirable:

· Home office PIL C, experience with in vivo behavioural assays

· Molecular cloning

· Primary culture/iPSC culture

· CRISPR-based gene editing

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

· Capable of designing and executing research studies independently

· Broad technical expertise and a desire to work in a laboratory-focussed role

· Drug discovery/development experience preferred

· Experienced in working in teams

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Record of scientific publications and/or patents

Desirable:

· At least 2-3 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry working in projects and performing laboratory research
