The starting salary for this position is £24,780 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service provide emergency services around the County, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Fire Service vehicles and equipment, when used on emergency calls, will be used in hazardous and life-threatening situations. It is therefore essential that all vehicles and equipment be serviced and maintained to the highest standards to protect and safeguard Fire crews and the public from injury and to deal effectively and efficiently with the emergency.

As an Equipment Technician for the Logistics Team, you will be working as part of a small but crucial team. You will be an active team member ensuring that our legal requirements are always met and that preventative maintenance is carried out to a high level. This will be over a 36 hour week, Monday to Friday.

The Engineering Support Team’s primary function is to service and maintain the equipment that the Fire crews use. This can be anything from a hose reel branch to a dry suit and everything in between. Effective Technical Services Engineers are crucial to front-line staff for the quality of service delivery. It is an extremely rewarding role where you get a lot of job satisfaction.

You may already have some previous fire service experience but this is not essential as there is training provided. Engineering Support Technicians are experienced engineers with a wide range of engineering skills and a great ability to problem solve. The post holder will help to organize their own workload and set day-to-day priorities but have robust communication mechanisms with the Engineering Charge Hand and overall team to ensure continuity of service delivery.

  • Good sound technical knowledge in engineering
  • An ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work extra hours if required
  • Minimum of a Category B UK Manual Driving Licence
  • Educated to GCSE standard in English and Maths or equivalent
  • City and Guilds or equivalent qualifications in general engineering or relevant experience
