JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for an analytical, tech-savvy, and process-driven Director of Finance to manage all aspects of our business analytics, financial accounting operations, and data. The ideal candidate should possess strong data management and analysis skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, advanced financial knowledge and experience, a high level of organization and discipline, and excellent leadership skills.

Duties for the Director of Finance will include publishing financial statements and KPIs, analyzing company data, monitoring expenses, forecasting cash flows, and managing accounting operations and staff, ensuring accuracy of financial records. Your strategic planning and exceptional numerical proficiency as a director of finance will help us formulate sound financial strategies, implement proper internal controls, make better decisions, and achieve company objectives.

In addition to financial management, this role will be the primary contributor of data reporting and analytics for the leadership team. You will need to develop actionable insights using advanced Excel skills, ERP system and data management expertise, specialized BI tools, teamwork, and highly effective communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, analyze, and reconcile all financial statements monthly – balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare key financial reports and provide analysis to leadership – trends in sales, expenses, margins, KPIs, progress to goals, variances, etc.
  • Keep Studio M leadership informed with thorough analysis and reporting – database management, report creation, publishing digital dashboards, etc.
  • Keep company data sets clean, consistent, accurate, and organized for reliable reporting and analysis.
  • Manage BI tools, visualizations, and data structures (Tableau).
  • Manage accounting team – interview/hire/train employees, plan/assign/direct work, appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, address complaints and resolve conflicts.
  • Standardize and continuously improve accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage transaction records to maintain consistent and accurate financial statements.
  • Facilitate quarterly and annual budget review processes, manage budget data in the ERP, and report on budget variances.
  • Prepare banking account reconciliations, periodic borrowing base certificates, and other documentation required by lenders.
  • Analyze inventory levels and forecasts to make purchasing decisions for high-volume imported products.
  • Regularly monitor critical internal controls.
  • Coordinate and support financial audit and physical inventory processes.
  • Submit periodic sales tax filings and payments, monitor tax nexus, and manage registration with new states as required.
  • Assist with preparation of 1099s, royalty and commission reports.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years as senior finance/accounting professional
  • 3-5 years of experience in statement-level and account-level financial analysis
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and distribution business highly desired
  • Experience in data management, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals and principles
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Auditing experience a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership and business acumen
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced Excel skills – creating interactive financial models, advanced formulas, functions, pivot tables, etc.
  • Experience with creating reports and queries through an ERP like NetSuite
  • Hands-on experience writing SQL queries
  • Intermediate skill level in Tableau or similar BI tool
  • Experience with or demonstrated aptitude for learning complex digital tools such as NetSuite, Hubspot, Magento, Asana, Tableau, etc.
  • A passion for data and technology – innate curiosity and drive to learn, test out new technologies, solve complex problems, and discover valuable insights from data.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Finance, Financial Accounting, or related field
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent preferred
