Job Description At Sage, the Strategic Accounting, Reporting and Analysis team is responsible for:

  • Forecasting, reporting, evaluating and explaining the company’s cash flow performance and for partnering with business leaders to help inform and guide key operational and strategic decisions.
  • Valuation modelling.
  • All accounting and reporting activities on M&A deals and other high profile finance project work – as well as supporting with M&A due diligence where required.
  • Post-acquisition M&A integration from a financial accounting and reporting perspective.
  • Goodwill impairment testing, going concern and viability reporting – with outputs presented up to the Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Other project work – including legal entity rationalisation.

In this role, you will work on numerous initiatives which will enable the growth of Sage, help shape the future operating model and simplify our existing ways of working. You will be supported by a team of at least three people and will work directly with cross-functional and regional leaders to drive forward our vision of becoming a great SaaS company. The role will be based in London or Newcastle, with a flexible working arrangement.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Working capital reporting and cash flow forecasting

  • Lead the monthly management reporting and analysis activities specific to cash flow and working capital movements, including commentary within the Group’s management accounts.
  • Lead the group’s rolling cash flow forecasting cycle in partnership with FP&A leads who operate the income statement forecasting cycle.
  • Continuous improvement of working capital management, cash flow forecasting and monthly reporting.

Valuation

  • An understanding of basic valuation concepts is expected to support with the preparation of valuations for internal monitoring and other purposes.
  • Lead the relationship with external advisers who, if required, are used to prepare and support with valuation exercises.
  • Partner with other teams (e.g., VP Tax) when valuations are required to be prepared.

Goodwill Impairment Testing, Going Concern And Viability Reporting

  • Lead the accounting and reporting requirements over goodwill impairment testing, going concern and viability reporting – a basic understanding of these topics is expected.
  • Partner with other business leaders and advisors to support the compilation of materials to support the Group’s going concern and viability statement.

M&A Project Work

  • Support with due diligence process on M&A deals by being the due diligence lead from a financial accounting, reporting and control perspective.
  • Manage third party valuers for the valuation of acquired businesses (knowledge of valuation principles is a plus). Take the lead on purchase price allocation (PPA) accounting and write summary papers for the Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Provide support and input to Sage’s integration team to support with the integration of acquired businesses from a finance perspective.

Must Have

Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Experience managing teams and working with multiple stakeholders.
  • More than 5 years PQE
  • Basic modelling and valuation experience
  • Demonstrate good accounting skills and technical knowledge of financial accounting and reporting
  • Report writing experience for senior stakeholders
  • Ability to analyse issues and present key messages within communications and reports to others, including senior stakeholders
  • Agile working mindset with an adaptable working style, ability to think creatively, highly driven, and self-motivated
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint applications

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the SaaS / software industry

Technical / Professional Qualifications

  • Chartered accountant (e.g., ACA / ACCA / CPA)
