The Role

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking a Manager, Data Science & Analytics to join our Big Data team. The analytics team plays a critical role within the company: you will have access to rich datasets being generated by millions of readers across the globe as they interact with our website, apps, eReaders , partner integrations, marketing platforms, and our CRM channels. You’ll be tasked with leading the evaluation of new features and campaigns, identifying and siz ing new opportunities, identifying meaningful customer segments, and build ing models to analyze customer behaviour.

To succeed in this role, you will leverage your experience of delivering insightful analysis and championing revenue-driving projects in the context of ecommerce. You have a vision for which approaches, tools, and prior art may apply to our business, and you’re interested in growing and developing a team to multiply your effectiveness. You are a storyteller who is equally comfortable developing a technical roadmap as you are presenting findings to our executive team.

The Skillset

Must Haves

  • B.Sc. or greater in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent experience .
  • 5+ years experience developi ng and communicating advanced analytics in the context of ecommerce.
  • 3+ years experience developing statistical models ( acquisition, predictive value, time series analysis.)
  • 3+ years developing & analyzing A/B tests.
  • Master manipulat or: you can join & analyze complex sets of data using SQL, Graph QL , Python, R, or similar.
  • A methodical approach to breaking complex and abstract problems into discreet work packages.
  • Experience using both off the shelf tooling (Google Analytics, Amplitude, Twilio) and in-house developed analytics with an understanding of the tradeoffs of each.
  • Experience with Python & R.
  • A zealous advocate for data-driven decisions.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience.

Bonus

  • Hands on experience working with streaming data platforms (Kafka, Storm, Flink, …)
  • Hands on experience developing & deploy ing ML models .
  • Hands on experience with dashboarding tools (Looker, Tableau, Domo, …)
  • Familiarity with marketing and CRM ecosystems.
