Müller Milk & Ingredients aims to be Britain’s private label dairy leader and produces branded and private label fresh milk, cream, butter and ingredients products. It boasts a network of dairies and depots servicing customers throughout the country.

We are currently recruiting for a Financial Controller at our dairy site in Manchester. This role will provide financial decision making support to the dairy and to act as finance lead in driving improvements in dairy performance. The successful individual will ensure site budgets, capital investments and three year plans are optimised and to act as business partner to the site leadership team, including Ingredients and Commercial, identifying opportunities for improvement across full P&L.

Financial Controller: Key challenges:

  • Develop strong and independent relationships with Manufacturing Leads
  • Drive improved controls within site teams
  • Understand full site processes to enable accurate reporting of performance
  • Drive change agenda from a financial perspective

Compliance/Financial Control

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Hold the fiduciary responsibility for all materials and assets owned by the company on the site
  • To develop and maintain a system of financial control, that adheres to the company’s policies and procedures at all times and which allows for the fiduciary responsibility to be properly performed
  • Ensure correct recording of all types of inventories (R&M, Milk, Ingredients etc) held on site within the company’s financial systems
  • Ensure accurate recording of materials consumption within the company’s financial systems and ensuring accurate reporting on site usage, wastage and other variances

Costing/Reporting and Operational Performance

  • Support Commercial teams with new tenders, providing robust financial updates for product costing, adhering to group standard costing methodology
  • Manage and maintain the Bill of Materials and other product costing models for products manufactured by the site, updating of product costing models and BOMs to maintain their accuracy
  • Close the books for the site each month and ensure the management accounts accurately report sites income and expenditures and closing balance sheet
  • To provide the site management team and MMI leadership with clear, timely and accurate analysis and explanations of the financial impact operational performance
  • Review and drive improvements in site forecasting and performance metrics
  • Support the local site and wider manufacturing function to achieve their targets
  • Drive and manage standardised financial based KPI metrics for the site and report these to the site management team and MMI leadership on daily/weekly/monthly cycles

Strategy Development

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate the detailed budget and forecasting process of the site, including explaining business impacts to internal, functional and group colleagues
  • Evaluate and continuously review investment opportunities for the site and support wider team in reviewing network design options
  • Support SKU/Product Family rationalisation opportunities (within/across sites) and provide robust financial modelling / systems solutions to new business opportunities across all manufacturing processes of the site

Continuous Improvement

  • Work collaboratively with other parts of the Controlling function and wider business, improve processes and ensure consistency of approach across all sites
  • Build relations with Group colleagues to support implementation of group standards and sharing of ideas and best practice between Business Units
  • Identify areas for improvement in reporting and where necessary influence key stakeholders

Financial Controller: Key skills & experience

Qualified Account with 5+ years PQA

Proven experience in FMCG

Ability to operate at all levels

Excellent communication skills

Ability to manage and influence

Able to work under own initiative, as well as strong team player
