Job Overview

We currently have a vacancy for a full time, permanent Band 4, Assistant Practitioner post at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.

We are looking for a qualified Assistant Practitioner with a SCoR approved certificate of Higher Education (or equivalent) in Radiography.

You must have drive and enthusiasm to develop their clinical skills, as well as a desire to deliver excellent care to our patients.

Glangwili General Hospital is a busy district general hospital which has major trauma status for West Wales. The department is well equipped with a GE 750HD CT scanner and a Canon Aquilion Prism which has recently been installed.

Main duties of the job

The department has a Siemens Aera 1.5T MRI scanner and performs all examinations including a dedicated GA Paediatric session every two weeks. The general department has a Samsung DR room, all mobile equipment is digital and a selection of Philips II’s. Our second general room will be replaced with a new samsung DR room in the next financial year. In 2020 a Siemens Artis Zee fluoroscopy room was installed which now facilitates ERCP, Permanent and temporary pacemaker insertion, Hysterosalpingography and swallowing assessment studies.

There is an effective in house CPD programme and the Health Board has strong links with the University of Wales, Cardiff.

To perform general imaging examinations (e.g. Skeletal radiography and imaging of abdomen and chest) and make independent decisions on patient positioning and exposure factors.

To assess the final images under supervision of a registered radiographer.

Record the information on PACS and on RadIS.

Assists with research, clinical audit and evidence based practice.

  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
