We are pleased to announce that an exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic consultant to provide senior clinical leadership for the Community Eating Disorders Service for Children and Young People in East London. This position has arisen due to the current consultant reducing sessions to be able to take up an academic post.

We are looking for a part-time Locum Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (with the opportunity to apply for a substantive role) to join our team. The post holder will form part of the CEDS senior leadership team and be responsible for the delivery of the highest standards of care and services for children and young people experiencing eating disorders and their loved ones. The post holder will be actively involved in the strategic development of the team, working closely with the non-medical Joint Clinical Team Lead and Operations and Transformation Manager to help steer and deliver a service that is in line with the strategic direction of ELFT.

  • Providing psychiatric assessment, including risk assessment, and treatment for children and young people referred to the service where consultant psychiatric involvement is necessary.
  • The Consultant is not expected routinely to take on the role of case coordinator and there is a team caseload ethos.
  • To consult to the team and other colleagues to offer psychiatric expertise and direct involvement in the areas of: assessment and diagnosis, pharmacological treatments, use of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation in the management of children and young people with eating disorders, and the management of complex and/or risky presentations and severe symptomatology.
  • Working in partnership with young people, parents and carers to develop evidence-based, effective and agreed care plans.
  • Co-ordinating multiagency packages of care, treatment and support for young people and their families with eating disorders and associated complex mental health problems.
  • Providing consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the child, young person or family.
  • To provide clinical leadership to the CEDS-CYP jointly with the non-medical Clinical Team Lead.
  • Contributing to the East London out of hours CAMHS consultant psychiatry rota.
