Responsibilities

Generate and maintain finished product, manufacturing, and raw material specifications for finished goods produced and/or distributed by Bob Evans Farms. Provide regulatory expertise to the team as it pertains to nutritional labeling.

  • Provide regulatory expertise in the calculation and generation of finished product nutrition facts panels, nutritional claims, and review of nutrition validation laboratory analysis.
  • Create and revise nutrition facts panels according to current FDA and USDA regulatory guidelines.
  • With minimal supervision, develop technical specifications for finished (food) products and/or materials (packaging, ingredients) within the Specification Management systems.
  • Work with R&D developers in generating finished product and manufacturing specifications for new products.
  • Complete timely updates of finished product and material specifications while maintaining appropriate change records.
  • Review and validate the specification information for accuracy to avoid discrepancies, redundancies, errors, or omissions.
  • Interface with R&D, Supply Chain, FSQA, Marketing, and others on the project team to ensure information and documentation is accurately incorporated into the specification.
  • Support multiple projects concurrently and efficiently within a given timeframe.
  • Provide current and accurate product-related information to internal and external customers which addresses and meets their needs.
  • Collaborate with R&D Dir. Reg. Compliance on department policies and work instructions.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutritional Science, Chemistry or Food Safety is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in food regulatory affairs or product development, with in-depth knowledge of food and ingredient standards and FDA and USDA food labeling regulations.
  • Experience in ingredient functionality, formulations, package design, analytical test methods, and general food processing unit operations.
  • Experience with writing food and/or material specifications is preferred.
  • Must have advanced organizational skills and the ability to develop and manage multiple priorities.
  • Results-oriented with strong attention to detail and meets deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills with the emphasis on presenting solutions. Must be able to assess needs and make recommendations relating to customer requests, ingredient issues, nutritional labeling and regulatory compliance.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates good judgment, initiative, and works with a sense of urgency.
  • Builds relationships both internally (R&D, Corporate FSQ, Supply Chain, Procurement, Marketing, IT) and externally (vendors, and external laboratories) in order to achieve results.
  • Excellent computer skills including the use of database systems are needed, as are excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Genesis or similar nutrient database software.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language.
