Our UK Sustainability and Climate Services Business have a new opportunity for an experienced Environmental Consultant to join our North West and Yorkshire team to work in the fields of environmental assessment, environmental management, coordination and compliance for infrastructure projects.

We are seeking someone who shares our enthusiasm and passion for sharing a better world and help designers, owners and operators of infrastructure (including cities, transport water and energy) to respond to the Climate Emergency and embed the Sustainable Development Goals. We are seeking a consultant with developed skills in environmental assessment, management and/or coordination who has experience in working with infrastructure from the early stages of project conception, appraisal and design through to construction and operation.

As a consultant you will work as part of a peer group of specialists and project managers, supported by a strong and diverse team of consultants and senior leaders. The role requires strong content knowledge in the field of the environment and infrastructure, together with a sound understanding of qualitative/quantitative analysis and excellent report writing and communication skills. The role requires strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with others and work in teams.

Your Role Will Include

  • Coordinating environmental surveys and specialists input
  • Identifying appropriate environmental approvals processes
  • Undertaking environmental assessments and management plans
  • Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project management and colleagues
  • Working in project design teams to achieve improved environmental outcomes
  • Preparing and delivering compelling client- and public-facing reports
  • Preparing and delivering presentations, workshops and/or training to teams and clients
  • Assisting to manage projects including budgets and programmes

Essential Skills And Knowledge

Requirements and skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or Geography. We would prefer qualifications which demonstrate multi-disciplinary and strategic problem solving. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current UK environmental policy, legislation and regulations
  • Experience in environmental assessment, design and management of infrastructure – eg through Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), EIA Screening letters, EIA Scoping Reports, Environmental Statements, Environmental management plans or similar
  • Experience in the design and delivery of infrastructure – such as rail, water, energy, cities.
  • Understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment.
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience writing, editing and reviewing technical and non-technical reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including workshops, presenting, writing reports and stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Skills And Knowledge

  • Candidates should be chartered or working towards chartership in a relevant professional institution
  • Project and commercial management experience, including project planning and budgeting.
  • Experience in a client-facing role
  • Qualified or desire to become a qualified CEEQUAL Assessor
