Our Advanced Digital Engineering team is one of the leading technology consultancies in the built environment. The Advanced Digital Engineering group comprises about 300 staff based in the UK and provides Technology Strategy, Design and Architecture, Big Data, GIS and Infrastructure Advisory Services. The Digital Water Team sits in the Advanced Digital Engineering Group. This team you would join exists to guide our clients in the optimum use of technology; we help develop our clients’ vision into tangible solutions.

We will consider candidates based in any location within the UK.

Role And Responsibilities

You will work on various assignments related to Digital Water project delivery. Your responsibilities will be to:

Develop new opportunities and relationships

Deliver projects for clients and internal investments

Develop the medium and long term digital water strategy for Arup

Assist in the digital transformation of the Water business.

This position plays a key role in a dynamic and growing team. You will need to be comfortable with all elements of project development and delivery and work flexibly to get the job required done. Sometimes you will work within a multi-disciplinary team; on other occasions; you may lead the delivery of small projects to clients. You will work effectively in collaboration with others and often with minimal supervision. You will need to be comfortable jumping between topics and be able to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Your capabilities will include clearly defining problem statements, deep technical knowledge of water engineering and digital technologies, confidence in communication and presentation, and a self-starting attitude to work. Importantly you will be expected to input into shaping the team’s future and be a key representative of what Digital Water is at Arup.

Education And Experience

You are likely to have a degree qualification in a subject related to engineering or technology, although this isn’t a prerequisite. We are ideally looking for someone with Water experience – either within a Consultancy, Water Operator or Regulator. It would be an advantage to have conducted research in the area and have links with academics in the UK and abroad. The client stakeholders in this work are frequently senior and, in addition to strong technical skills, you must possess excellent written, presentational and influencing skills. We are also looking for someone with team leadership coupled with Project and Programme Management experience.


You are likely to be demonstrably on a path to achieving chartered status as an engineer or an IT professional

Experience Required

Your academic qualifications will preferably have been augmented by working experience in a services consulting environment or equivalent. You should have experience in identifying and engaging internal and external stakeholders. You will have a collaborative style of working that fosters innovation and teamwork. An interest in sustainability and a desire to deliver solutions for customers that promote long-term sustainable outcomes would also be an advantage.


You should be able to develop business proposals for clients by understanding client requirements and drawing together expertise from across a multi-disciplinary firm. You should also have an interest in Digital projects and the application of GDS agile framework.

BPSS or SC security clearance, or able secure this.
