Location: Manchester / Leeds / York / Sheffield / Liverpool

Our UK Environment & Sustainability Business is looking for an Associate / a Senior Consultant experienced in climate change. We are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm and passion for shaping a better world and will help to develop and deliver our carbon and climate change services.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced senior climate professional to lead and grow our climate services in Arup’s North West & Yorkshire (NW&Y) region, as part of our Sustainability and Climate Services business.

You’ll have the passion and drive to play an integral role in helping our clients understand the impact of their projects on climate and help them on the transition to net zero carbon.

You’ll Be Enthusiastic And Committed To Shaping a Better World, With Demonstrable Experience In Climate Services, In Areas Such As

  • Advice on climate change legislation, policy and strategy at organisational, local, regional and/or national levels.
  • Delivery and technical oversight of climate change assessments, standards and mitigation (e.g. GHG emissions, carbon accounting, climate change resilience, mitigation strategies and solutions and offsetting, climate assessments in EIA)
  • Application of climate change mitigation and adaptationesilience measures.
  • Leading teams to deliver climate services, such as project management, mentoring staff, client relationships and business development.

You’ll be a confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communications skills including developing, delivering and presentingeporting work to internal and external audiences, engaging with stakeholders and provide technical review to others.

The role

Your Work Is Likely To Include

You will lead and deliver work with both our Arup colleagues and external clients to embed and drive net zero carbon and climate resilience.

  • Advice on climate change and decarbonisation, including legislative requirements, strategy, policy, design, ratings and standards;
  • Greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions assessment, including carbon accounting and advising on mitigation opportunities on projects (infrastructure), cities and organisations;
  • Climate change risk assessment and advice on adaptation and resilience;
  • Advice on GHG removals and nature based solutions to carbon management, including offsetting;
  • Technical review of others’ climate change work;
  • Represent the team/Arup on internal and external engagement, meetings and business development on climate change

You will also play an important role in shaping and leading the climate services across NW&Y, utilising your knowledge and experience to highlight client requirements and service opportunities. This will include providing guidance and mentorship to develop the skills of others, supporting business development activities such as preparation of expressions of interest and proposals, networking and client engagement activities.

You’ll Be Able To Demonstrate

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor or masters qualification in a relevant field, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Climate Change or Sustainability (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of climate change legislation, strategy and policy;
  • Demonstrative professional experience delivering advice on climate change;
  • Experience in business development, project management and client relationships;
  • Experience in providing technical review in climate change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including strong experience in writing reports, bids and client engagement.

Desirable Skills And Knowledge

  • Appropriate chartership or working towards chartership – e.g. Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv);
  • Experience in leading teams and developing skills and technical knowledge of others;
  • Net Zero target setting and plans;
  • An ability to deliver workshops and presentations;
  • Experience of life cycle assessment (LCA) tools and/or those used in top-down assessments.
