Staffordshire and Shropshire Health Informatics Service (S&SHIS) is a shared service hosted by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We provide a portfolio of IT services to NHS organisations across the Staffordshire and Shropshire health economy, with a staff structure specifically developed to provide excellent service to support clinical services and a clear career path in NHS IT. A recent staff survey undertaken across all S&SHIS teams found the top three words to describe our service are: friendly, supportive and hard-working.

An excellent and exciting opportunity has arisen in Staffordshire & Shropshire Health Informatics Service Network & Systems Team for the post of AfC Band 6 Network and Systems Engineer. The post holder will be a highly enthusiastic IT professional, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in networking and servers coupled with excellent customer service skills.

Interaction with our other support teams is vital to; quickly identify common faults, provide workarounds and develop resolutions where required. Due to the variety and complexity of the daily tasks undertaken by this role, a high standard of technical ability,a positive “can-do” attitude and a good eye for problem solving is required.

The Network & Systems Team provide infrastructure support across the customer base of the S&SHIS and is responsible for the maintenance, upgrades and horizon scanning of new technologies for this infrastructure. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their skill set within the Network & Systems Team, where they will be providing both implementation and support of technologies from a variety of vendors, including Cisco, Microsoft and Netapp. The role will include significant joint working with colleagues, customers and various third parties to ensure the successful progression and completion of customer projects.

The role will be primarily based at our Trentham offices, however there is the opportunity for home working where appropriate. There will be requirements to complete onsite working from any of our customer locations, sometimes using your own vehicle as transport or the use of corporate vehicles and therefore a full UK Category B driving license is required.

Annual leave for the role starts at 27 days (excluding bank holidays), increasing to 33 after 10 years continuous service. Specific details of the role and all essential requirements are outlined in the Job Description and Person Specification.
